Remember this is a HIV screening test. Based on the positive results of this rapid screening test, we cannot diagnose as HIV positive.
It is necessary to conduct a follow up test for the same patient. These follow up test includes 3rd or 4th generation ELISA test for HIV antibody.
If this result indicates positivity, it will be confirmed by doing western blot test (HIV confirmatory test). Even if the screening tests positive and Western Blot gives negative results, we cannot say that you are infected with HIV.
However, if the Western Blot confirms that you are infected with HIV, you will be directed to the STD clinics and the next thing is to take action to protect your health and prevent transmission to others.
The health care professionals will maintain the confidentiality of your results and they will guide and provide counseling to you.
