The whole blood which is a mixture of cells, colloids and crystalloids can be separated into different blood components namely red blood cell concentrate, platelet concentrate, fresh frozen plasma , cryoprecipitate etc …

 

Each blood component is used for a different indication; also the component separation has maximized the utility of one whole blood unit. Different components need different storage conditions and temperature requirements for therapeutic efficacy.

  • Red Blood Cells , Can storage 35 days  in 4 – 6 Celcious
  • Washed red blood cells ,  can storage only 6 hours  in room temperature
  • LDRC ( leukoreduced red blood cells )  can storage , 42 days in 2 – 6 Celcious 
  • But Frozen Red blood cells , can storage about 10 years at minus 80 celcious
  •  usually use this method for preserve very rare blood types
  • Also FFP can storage , 1 year    in minus 30 celcious
  • Crayo poor plasma can storage , 1 year  in minus 30 Celcious
  • Platelets can storage just 5 days in  22 Celcious
  • Crayo can storage 1 year , in minus 30  celcious .
